The Amtrak HHP-8, one of the briefest electric locomotives operating on the Northeast Corridor, now arrives in Train Simulator for the exciting NEC: New York-New Haven route. This powerful locomotive, boasting 8,000hp, was constructed by Bombardier Transportation and Alstom. A total of 15 units were commissioned for Amtrak in 1999, along with six for the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) system.
Engineered for true locomotive capabilities, the HHP-8 aimed to replace the aging GE E60s and complement the EMD AEM-7s. While it shares a similar aesthetic with the Acela, the HHP-8 features advanced technology, supporting multiple power supplies from dual pantographs. With a top design speed of 135mph (217 km/h), it operates under FRA Tier 1 standards, limited to 125mph (201 km/h).
This add-on showcases the HHP-8 in Amtrak's iconic blue and silver livery, complete with features such as cruise control, in-cab signaling display, and pantograph select. Additionally, Amfleet I passenger cars are included to enhance your experience. Quick Drive compatibility allows you to operate the HHP-8 on various routes, while four dedicated scenarios for the NEC: New York-New Haven route offer diverse gameplay options.
