The Thompson B1 Class locomotive, a mixed traffic engine from the London and North Eastern Railway, is now part of Train Simulator, featuring scenarios tailored for the renowned Woodhead Line. Designed by Edward Thompson, the chief mechanical engineer for the LNER, the B1 is a 4-6-0 locomotive that was the inaugural two-cylinder main line engine produced by the LNER. Between 1942 and 1952, over 400 B1s were built to address the need for cost-effective mixed traffic engines following wartime and post-war conditions.
The B1 Class operated extensively across the LNER network until its withdrawal in the 1960s, despite its expected longer economic lifespan. This add-on includes the Thompson B1 in British Railways black livery, complete with the lion-and-wheel emblem, and features an intricately detailed and operational cab interior with functional gauges and firebox doors.
