Set in the twenty-second century, Red Faction II thrusts players into a dystopian Earth, five years after the Martian rebellion. Under the iron grip of the tyrannical dictator Sopot, the Commonwealth has endured 15 years of oppression, bloodshed, and poverty spurred by his ambition for unification with the United Republic. As the populace struggles under propaganda and relentless warfare, a team of highly-trained super-soldiers, enhanced with nanotechnology, emerges to challenge his rule.

Players take on the role of Alias, a demolitions expert leading an elite squad of six, each with unique destructive skills. Using the groundbreaking Geo-Mod™ engine, players can experience real-time terrain modification as they navigate through varied and immersive levels filled with action-packed combat. Engage in battles utilizing vehicles, including tanks and hover flyers, alongside an arsenal of 14 specialized weapons and an array of useful items like health kits and grenades.
