Voltage is a retro-inspired adventure that pays homage to classic '90s games like Redneck Rampage, DukeNukem, and Quake while incorporating modern gaming features. Set in the quaint town of Frontier, Missouri, during the vibrant 1980s, players follow the story of Mark, a young man on his last summer before college. As he and his friends explore a local scrap yard, they stumble upon intriguing technology: a prototype VR headset and a mysterious floppy disk.

These items allow Mark to connect to a virtual universe known as AOSYS, where he discovers that the Amiga 500 can unlock extraordinary hidden features. However, this newfound power attracts the attention of a military-connected technology department, which sends an army of enemies after him within the game world. Players must navigate through eight expansive sublevels, each packed with action, challenges, and surprises.
