Experience the iconic Long Island Rail Road M3 electric-multiple-unit (EMU) in Train Sim World! Built between 1984-1986, these versatile EMUs were part of a fleet renewal program aimed at enhancing commuter rail services. The M3 cars, stretching 85 feet in length and constructed from stainless steel, thrive on D.C. current delivered by the LIRR's third-rail system. Each unit is powered by four 160-horsepower traction motors, enabling them to reach speeds of up to 80 mph (129 km/h).
The LIRR M3 EMUs are renowned for their yellow, gray, and silver livery, capturing the essence of “Big Apple” railroading classics. While M1 units were retired in 2007, the M3s continue to operate prominently on the LIRR network. With this add-on, you’ll navigate the challenges of operating these beloved units on the Long Island Rail Road route.
