The Black Grimoire: Cursebreaker

The Black Grimoire: Cursebreaker is a medieval fantasy, singleplayer adventure with an optional social multiplayer mode. Drawing inspiration from classic open‑world RPGs like RuneScape and Ultima Online, it invites you to roam a sprawling, open world filled with NPCs, dialogue, and dangerous monsters in the remote woodlands of Imberthale.

Play as Lord Rothar Aercrest — once the feudal ruler of Imberthale — who finds himself bound by a cruel curse after crossing a formidable dark wizard, Gabrius. Defeat Gabrius, uncover the truth behind the curse, and decide what peace means in a world where power, pettiness, revenge, and greed shape every encounter.

Core gameplay

Develop your power through a robust skill system: 12 skills total split between 4 combat and 8 crafting/harvesting. Progress via every in‑game action, unlock new abilities, weapons, armor, and spell options, and tailor your style with a mix of melee, ranged, and magical approaches.

The spellbook offers a large array of combat and non‑combat magic. Some spells require preparation and ingredients, encouraging exploration and resource gathering. Craft, loot, and harness items to gain advantages in battle and exploration alike.

World and progression

Explore a large open world that rewards curiosity. Engage in a variety of quests with deep writing that centers on human stories and rivalries rather than world‑ending catastrophes. Discover numerous weapons and spells to employ in strategic combat and adapt your playstyle as you progress.

Customize a home to rest and recover between adventures. The game automatically saves, and if you fall in combat you are revived at the nearest graveyard. You may lose valuables, but you can recover them by revisiting the death site or hiring a scavenger. Don’t forget restorative foods and potions to stay ahead of dangerous foes.

Other players

Although Cursebreaker is primarily a singleplayer experience, there is an optional social multiplayer component. You will see other adventurers online, but interaction is limited to chatting and inspecting equipment—no trading or shared gameplay events. Online mode can be configured for big cities, kept always on, or turned off for a fully offline run.
