The Tartarus Key
Alex Young wakes up in a strange mansion where every door is sealed behind bizarre puzzles and lethal traps. Cameras track her every move, and shadows flicker with things she only half believes she sees. If she wants to escape alive, she’ll need to outwit the environment and rely on brains over brawn.
This adventure thriller, inspired by the look and feel of classic horror games, weaves a mystery packed with twists, deadly surprises, and a growing sense of unease. Solve clever challenges, read the environment for hidden hints, and push through a maze of unsettling rooms where danger hides in plain sight.
As you progress, you’ll rescue fellow captives you discover along the way, uncovering the mansion’s strange heart and the motives of your captors. The game emphasizes suspenseful storytelling and puzzle design over combat or chase sequences, delivering a tense, atmospheric experience that rewards careful thinking and careful observation.
Three endings await, each revealing a different layer of the mansion’s secrets and its captors’ true intentions. Your choices, the puzzles you solve, and the paths you take through the rooms determine who makes it out—and who may stay behind with the house’s dark legacy.
Gameplay focuses on escape-the-room style challenges across a variety of unsettling, bizarre scenarios. The Tartarus Key is a tightly crafted, plot-driven mystery where your wits, timing, and courage are your only tools.
The Team: Leonor Parra leads the project as founder and artist, shaping the game’s atmosphere and unsettling mood. Kevin Colegate handles programming to deliver a smooth, classic-feel experience. Josie Brechner composes and designs sound, weaving emotionally-driven audio that heightens every moment of dread.
