Set in the haunting aftermath of 2045, AFTERGLOW explores a ravaged Earth where climate change has triggered catastrophic social and ecological collapse. As the world grappled with excessive emissions and an ever-growing population, global warming peaked, causing severe food and water shortages. The environment became hostile, forcing humanity into underground plantations for survival. In this desperate climate, conflicts erupted over dwindling resources, escalating into local skirmishes that ultimately ignited a cataclysmic global war.

In the chaos, nations constructed "Super Fortresses," massive structures built deep underground, equipped with automated turrets programmed to defend against perceived threats. As the final conflict culminated in nuclear devastation, a nuclear winter blanketed the planet, eradicating approximately 85% of the human population. With most survivors perishing without shelter, the automated defense systems persisted, continuing their missions long after humanity had vanished.

Now, decades later in 2058, the time has come to resurface and reclaim the barren world. Players take on the role of randomly selected guardsmen tasked with purging enemy installations and clearing the landscape. Each mission begins with a basic weapon and an AI-equipped suit, creating a brutal yet thrilling experience of survival and resource reclamation in a broken world.
