Thrive — Evolutionary sandbox in your hands
Take control of an organism on an alien world, starting from the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA). Survive, adapt through mutations, and compete as life evolves around you. The game uses a population-dynamics driven simulation where random mutations shape the fate of species, including yours.
- Design your species with over 25 parts to choose from. Place mitochondria to power your cell, chloroplasts to harvest sunlight, or a pilus to stab prey. Adjust your membrane for eating in one bite or add a tough cell wall for protection.
- Survive and reproduce by traveling environments, gathering resources from clouds and chunks, or stealing from others. Use every tool in your editor to survive predation and out-compete rivals.
- Evolutionary simulation—watch other species evolve to be stronger, smarter, and better at hunting or avoiding predation. Your success depends on both your personal survival skills and your evolutionary decisions.
A dynamic world explores diverse regions, from scalding hydrothermal vents to frigid ice shelves. The world isn’t static — asteroid impacts and global ice ages can reshape habitats and opportunities for life.
Multiple playstyles to master. Feed via photosynthesis, convert hydrogen sulfide to sugar, burn iron for energy, or simply chew through your neighbors. Endosymbiosis lets you fuse other species into your own for new capabilities.
Learning and planning via real biology-inspired parts. Review population graphs, plan futures, and experiment with the editor to see how your species fares in different environments. Use the introductory tutorial to learn the basics and then push toward more complex lifeforms.
Stages and future vision The Microbe Stage is the current complete phase: you control a microbe or a microbe colony, explore, reproduce, and progress to the editor and different biomes. The Multicellular Stage introduces multiple cells and new interactions, setting the stage for more, with prototypes of future stages included to show the team’s longer-term goals.
Open-source and community Thrive is open-source and built with the Godot Engine using C#. Anyone with game development skills is welcome to contribute, while fans can join the ongoing journey and share in the evolution of life itself.
