WTC : Relentless Protagonist [SxS]
An interactive comedy-drama-thriller visual novel designed for split-screen co-op storytelling. Set in a semi-fictional world of secret organizations, it places two unlikely partners at the center of a high-stakes conspiracy.
The protagonist and Grendel Jinx are forced to work together after Grendel’s mother pulls the strings of danger and deceit. Their mission to stop a formidable enemy from unleashing a world-shattering weapon goes awry, leaving them trapped inside Pleasant Grove Secondary School, where everyone swears they’re transfer students. As the pair canvass their eerie new surroundings, they uncover a trail of murder—teachers and classmates fall, and the truth behind the killings is murky.
Factions and lore drive the mystery:
- The Council of the Unseen: founded by Abigail Herrera and Frederick Jinx, this shadowy network seeks world domination through espionage, blackmail, sabotage, and propaganda. Their public face hides a far-reaching grip on power, with the American front company Mr. Nibbles Fortune Holdings, listening posts, and satellite bases that shape nations and leaders.
- The Phoenix Custodians: formed to counter The Council, funded by democratic nations. The protagonist—a former computer programmer—joins them, brings careful problem-solving to the table, and is thrust into a suicide mission against Grendel. Surviving the ordeal wins Grendel’s guarded friendship and lands the protagonist in charge of a modest department dedicated to squashing The Council, though the office is a converted broom cupboard and the staff are openly hostile.
Grendel Jinx is a lazy, arrogant, anime-loving kleptomaniac who becomes an uneasy ally. Her family’s tangled history pulls the strings behind the scenes, complicating choices and outcomes.
Gameplay features an emphasis on narrative choice: three endings and two epilogues, with your decisions steering which secondary story paths you unlock. The game runs in roughly 6–8 hours, spanned across ~79,000+ words and around 102 CG scenes, all presented in anime-inspired art. Two additional short stories unlock after completing the main game.
Expect moments of graphic violence, sharp humor, and a tone that blends comedy, drama, and thriller elements. Achievements are tracked both internally and via Steam, rewarding discovery and branching paths. The result is a bold, character-driven thrill ride that asks whether escape, trust, and alliances can outpace a hidden war.
