Take command as an insectoid alien ruler in a strategic battle over Jupiter’s moon Europa. It’s a test of planning, intuition, and perseverance, where every choice shapes the tide of war.

Your minions act with their own logic. They select targets using a simple form of “fuzzy logic,” letting you focus on strategy while the swarm manages the moment-to-moment chaos. Your job is to steer the hive—mutate your eggs to craft combat minions, or spawn Harvester bugs to gather nectar resources that sustain your war machine. You have only four egg slots, so every mutation and spawn must be chosen with care.

Spawn and mutate thoughtfully, because the flow of battle hinges on your decisions. Watch the battlefield unfold, predict outcomes, and adjust your plan as the enemy swarms back. The queen’s perspective remains centered on tactics, while your minions carry out the plan.

In the campaign’s 21 levels, you face a rival Swarm Queen who brings a new unit or ability in each stage. This surprise edge appears for her advantage, but she limits herself to a small set of units. You can peek at her unit list before a level or from the pause screen, helping you anticipate threats and plan counters.

Completing the main campaign unlocks challenge levels that twist the core rules for fresh twists. You can retry levels on hard mode, or start a New Game Plus—added in a free update—with extra nectar available to both queens for even tougher matches.

The biggest update to date, version 2.0, brings an alternate cartoon art style, Steam achievements, visible enemy emotions, an easy difficulty setting, and more features that deepen the swarm duels.

Swarm Queen blends insect life with classic sci‑fi alien lore, evoking a war between ant-like factions in the vacuum of space. It’s a one‑person indie project from Canadian developer Helmi Bastami, inspired by creatures and characters from sci‑fi and horror cinema.
