Smells Like a Mushroom

Parasitic mushrooms invade from space, spreading across the Milky Way. Humans are long extinct and vegetables rule Earth, but the galaxy still needs a hero. You are the unlikely one who must stand against the fungal horde, using wit, courage, and a touch of ridiculous luck to turn the tide and save what remains of civilization from a galactic basidial invasion.

Join the Aveggers aboard their space cruiser Soil-Trek and travel to planets scattered throughout our solar system in search of the long-lost human tech that can smash the Mushroom Kingpin. Satanus Boletus has taken residence on the Sun, and only by reclaiming the old machines and know-how can you hope to sever the invasion at its source. It’s a mission wrapped in color, camp, and orbits of absurd peril as you push toward the heart of the fungal threat.

Meet the crew: brave Carrotado at the helm, backed by General Despotato, scientists Nicola Siesta and Garlic Ailstein. On the journey you’ll encounter a cast of silly, endearing characters and a world bursting with whimsy, punchy humor, and pun-filled dialogue. Don’t let your favorite mother-in-lawn and the ever-spiritual Holy Broccoli get in your head—these quirky personalities are as much a part of the challenge as the enemies you face.

The world is led by President Abraham Lincorn, whose governance is as eccentric as the mission itself. Each planet visit uncovers oddball lore and bizarre missions that propel you toward the central confrontation with the spore-infested forces. The tone stays lighthearted and bold, never losing sight of the earnest goal: to push back the mushroom tide and restore a sense of order to the cosmos.

Gameplay blends platforming agility with action-packed shooting. Explore diverse planets across the solar system, maneuver through environmental hazards, and wield a range of diverse, upgradable weapons. The game is experienced from a third-person perspective, delivering vibrant, colorful settings and fast-paced pew-pew combat that keeps you moving and thinking on your feet. Story-driven cutscenes tie the action together, delivering humor, heart, and a sense of progression as you uncover the fungal conspiracy.

Smells Like a Mushroom supports both single-player play and local co-op in split-screen mode for two players (controller required). Team up to coordinate abilities, share power-ups, and push through the goofy yet thrilling campaign as you chase down Satanus Boletus and reclaim humanity’s lost tech. With its cheeky premise, memorable characters, and a mix of platforming and shooter action, this adventure invites you to embrace the absurd and fight back against a galaxy-wide mushroom takeover.
