Squirrel Stapler

A short, hour-long horror hunting simulator originally created as part of The Dread X Collection II, Squirrel Stapler satirizes low-budget edutainment games with pitch-black humor and panic-inducing absurdist horror.

The premise centers on a lonely man living in a remote cabin who discovers that his beloved—a dismembered corpse nailed to the cabin wall—has grown ugly and rotten under the swarm of flies. He longs for beauty like the forest’s squirrels and resolves to hunt them, stapling their corpses to her in a desperate bid to restore her appearance. Yet a sinister presence lurks in the deep woods with a single rule: Thou shalt not staple squirrels.

Gameplay focuses on stealth and precision. Move quietly, hide in bushes, stay low, and choose the exact moment to pull the trigger. Use the squirrel call to lure even bigger quarry, balance risk and reward, and beware of larger creatures and vengeful ghosts that roam the area. You aren’t the only alpha predator in the forest, and tension escalates as you navigate danger, sound, and timing.

Explore a large nonlinear map rich with educational squirrel facts and hidden curiosities. The world feels alive, offering multiple paths, encounters, and surreal moments that blend horror, satire, and oddball humor. Along the way you’ll encounter odd landmarks, strange rituals, and moments that push the game’s premise from grim to absurd.

New features and improvements expand the experience significantly. The forest is more vibrant than ever, with more to see, hear, and do. There’s an unlockable GIANT SQUIRRELS mode for chaotic mayhem, plus a full quality-of-life pass that refines game balance, UI, and tutorials. Expanded options, full controller support, and numerous bug fixes accompany new goodies in the goodies folder, along with a set of Achievements to chase as you play.

In Squirrel Stapler, danger is immediate, humor is sharp, and the boundary between nightmare and satire tightens with every move. If you want a compact, tense, and darkly humorous hunting experience that skewers indie edutainment while delivering unsettling atmosphere, this forest is your stage.
