Utility for the Soul description

Utility for the Soul is a thought-provoking exploration of the human experience set against the backdrop of our mechanized society. Designed by Lithuanian-American artist Aleksandra Kasuba in 1970, this unique game presents a visionary concept where a corporation builds a Retreat House dedicated to the well-being of its employees. The Retreat House promotes mental relief from the incessant pressures of corporate life, allowing visitors to engage with the natural elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water in expansive, echo-like Galleries.

Players navigate through 11 meticulously crafted rooms, solving elemental puzzles that challenge their perceptions and encourage introspection. This minimalist experience, rendered in hand-animated black and white visuals, combines an ambient soundscape with meditative gameplay, creating a soothing atmosphere for contemplation. Available in multiple languages, including English, French, and Lithuanian, each session lasts between 15 to 30 minutes.

Offering a critique of a data-driven society, Utility for the Soul provides a platform for players to reconnect with their inner selves, emerging from the fast-paced world to pursue a path of substance and self-discovery.
