Unique to Muramasa Burden is its health system; rather than traditional health points, you are governed by a timer that embodies the curse. Defeating enemies replenishes this timer, while the curse grants you extraordinary abilities like instant dashes and powerful projectiles.

The game also introduces a demonic rage mechanic. As time dwindles, your rage escalates through two stages, enhancing your attack speed, movement, and damage. You can choose to unleash a special stage of rage for even greater boosts, though at the cost of quicker timer depletion.
