Unknown Darkness description

Unknown Darkness fuses real history with Lovecraftian horror in an alternate 1920s America. A shadow agency, the Federal Protection Agency, operates outside the law to defend humanity from creatures and madness spilling through a rift opened by the traumas of modern war. You are Commander Elias Ford, a war-weary veteran who must guard civilization from a forgotten god whose very name was erased from history.

A World of Twisted History
The world blends real figures and eerie lore with original characters, where political intrigue and otherworldly danger collide. Rivalries and secrets from a prewar era push society toward panic as a hidden cult seeks to awaken an ancient power. Every decision shapes the fate of the campaign and your squad.

Chaos Meter & Threat Management
A dynamic Chaos Meter tracks public awareness. Spill too much into the open, and society descends into chaos. Ignore threats, and the cult gains ground. Move too aggressively, and you expose everything. Victory is earned in a world where endings are rarely clean and the cost of failure hits close to home.

Base & Agency Management
The F.P.A. headquarters is your lifeline. Recruit and rotate strike squads between missions, restore sanity, treat injuries, and manage psychological conditions. Build and upgrade facilities, research forbidden subjects, interrogate captives, and tailor operatives to your preferred playstyle and role. Your decisions at base echo on every frontline encounter.

Tactical Turn-Based Combat & Deck-Building
Each mission is a self-contained roguelite run: tactical positioning meets an ever-expanding arsenal of cards, relics, and weapons. Build your deck before deployment and adapt when plans collapse. Four classes open into 16+ subclasses, delivering distinct builds and specializations. Choose from 250+ cards, discover 50+ relics and weapons, and face cover mechanics, environmental hazards, destructible terrain, unique enemies, multi-stage elites, and multi-phase bosses.

Dungeon Crawling & Branching Encounters
Missions unfold through hostile environments filled with hidden rooms, branching events, and permanent consequences that follow you back to base. Random events, merchants, wanderers, and faction contacts appear mid-mission, offering choices that reshape future runs and narrative outcomes.

A Branching Narrative & Endings
Crafted by professional writers and historians, the story blends history, Lovecraftian lore, and original characters. No two campaigns end the same way. Expect multiple endings—heroic, bleak, and terrifying—each driven by dialogue choices, dice-based checks influenced by your squad’s state and history, and the creeping threat you neglect or confront.

Signature Visuals & Audio
Hand-drawn creature design and a cinematic original score deliver a distinct atmosphere. A switchable perspective shifts tension with every scene, placing you in the moment as the darkness closes in.

Built for Fans Of

The darkness waits for no one. Lead your people through the breach, or lose them to it.
