Castle Selbst is a puzzle-driven adventure where every floor of a looming castle challenges you to think, act, and endure. Traverse its sections by solving clever puzzles and pushing toward the upper reaches where formidable bosses await. Each boss encounter tests your strategy and timing, offering a unique set of attacks to learn and overcome.

Two distinct combat systems

Combat centers on two intertwined strands: CARD COMBAT and SPELLS. Cards unleash bursts of damage and carry special effects; they carry a number that governs timing rather than power. Enemies also play cards as they attack, and you cannot strike while they are taking their turn—unless you play a higher-value card, which interrupts their attack instantly. Your own interruptions work both ways, so timing is everything.

Spells are potent boosts to your offense and defense, but they come at a resource cost. Mana powers spell cards, and Mana only regenerates when you stand still. Use it wisely to turn the tide in tough skirmishes.

Weapons and progression

You start battles with a trusty crowbar, a simple tool that can evolve into four distinct weapons as you fight your way through the castle: a scythe, a wand, a whip, or a sword. Each new weapon changes how you approach combat and opens paths to more powerful gear. Hitting enemies isn’t just about damage—it's also how you discover stronger options, including poisons, ranged capabilities, and even tougher spell cards. Sometimes you’ll even upgrade by hitting a flower, uncovering new possibilities as you push deeper.

Enemies, bosses, and exploration

Enemies appear across floors and scale with how far you’ve progressed and how many bosses you’ve defeated. They grow stronger, making each encounter a test of wit and weapon choice. Bosses sit near the highest towers of the castle, delivering unique attack patterns that demand adaptation and precise timing. Defeating them is a milestone on your journey through the castle’s mysteries.

Exploration is essential: to advance you’ll solve puzzles that often involve levers and careful traversal between floors. The castle rewards patience and planning, urging you to balance clever card play, resource management, and weapon upgrades as you climb toward the ultimate challenges above.
