The Valiant Attempt is a story-driven 3D action RPG demo set in a stylized low-poly world teetering on the edge of collapse. Created in collaboration with Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, this demo offers a focused glimpse into a war-scarred realm where survival, loyalty, and difficult choices shape every step forward.

You play as a displaced noble turned mercenary, crossing the ruins of nations consumed by conflict. Your homeland is fractured, your family’s fate is uncertain, and the world has learned little from history. Long after a fallen empire’s monsters reshaped the land, humanity’s greed has reignited conquest—and now the cycle threatens to swallow what remains. Whispers spread of an ancient artifact said to end the war… or allow someone to escape it. Whether it’s salvation, myth, or a new form of ruin is for you to uncover.

Combat and Gameplay

Gameplay blends real-time action with reactive AI behavior. Battles focus on motion and timing, combining directional strikes, projectiles, and physical collisions that make each swing, block, and spell feel weighty and earned. Positioning matters, precision is rewarded, and encounters encourage you to read the battlefield instead of simply trading hits.

Both enemies and allies are designed to adapt dynamically. Opponents can coordinate against you, while companions react to your decisions and actions in the moment—creating fights that feel less scripted and more responsive.

Story, Choices, and Atmosphere

The world is defined by a somber, war-weary tone and grounded worldbuilding. Through dialogue-driven encounters, you’ll learn about characters, uncover the consequences of past conflicts, and make choices that may change what’s left of the realm—or simply determine how long you endure within it.
