Compass & Straightedge description
Compass & Straightedge
Compass & Straightedge is a geometric puzzle game by ShaoJH that turns classic ruler-and-compass constructions into a series of focused, hands-on challenges. Instead of solving problems by formulas, you solve them by drawing—using clean geometric rules and careful reasoning to build the required figure step by step.
The gameplay is built around six core tools: Point, Line, Circle, Wipe, Mark, and Pass. You place precise locations with Point, connect two points using Line, and create arcs and full circles with Circle by selecting a center and defining a radius based on the construction needs. If you make a mistake or want to refine your approach, Wipe lets you clear elements. Mark helps you highlight or record key intersections and references during multi-step constructions. When you believe the goal is satisfied, press Pass to submit and move to the next level.
Each level is a self-contained geometric task inspired by well-known construction problems. You’ll encounter challenges such as constructing equilateral triangles on given segments, building figures around concentric circles, creating angle bisectors, finding common tangents to two circles (including multiple tangent solutions), and drawing circles that are tangent to several known circles. The difficulty comes from understanding what relationships must hold—intersection points, equal radii, symmetry, tangency—and choosing the right sequence of constructions to make those relationships appear.
The result is both a puzzle experience and a practical exercise in geometric thinking: you’re rewarded for logical planning, precision, and the ability to recognize classic patterns behind each objective. The rules follow traditional straightedge-and-compass logic, making the solutions feel rigorous and satisfying.
Visually, the game keeps distractions low with a minimalist pixel-style presentation: simple block-like tool buttons and crisp lines that keep the geometry readable and central. The overall tone is calm and focused, designed to let the drawing—and your reasoning—do the talking.
