THE WELL description
THE WELL
THE WELL is a short, first-person, linear psychological horror experience built around isolation, starvation, and a slow collapse of reality. You play as a nameless hermit living far from any other human being. After a final, satisfying feast, he realizes something is terribly wrong: an unknown force has cut him off completely. The electricity is out, the car won’t run, and even the last fallback—a battery-powered landline—has been deliberately destroyed. With no way to call for help and no strength left to escape his remote home, he is trapped by the life he chose.
As hunger grows unbearable and the mind begins to fracture, the well becomes the only comfort—water to dull the craving, one day at a time. Then the bucket catches on something heavy. With shaking effort, he hauls it up… and pulls a human corpse from the darkness below.
From that moment, the story takes a disturbing turn. The protagonist starts obeying the corpse’s “requests,” following instructions as if they were spoken by someone still alive. Communication is mostly one-sided, yet the meaning is clear enough to push you forward.
Gameplay
- Day-by-day progression: The plot unfolds across several in-game days. Each day shifts the atmosphere and changes the environment, revealing new objectives and areas to explore.
- Exploration-focused horror: Search the property and surrounding fog-choked forest. Discover notes, books, and interactive objects that piece together what is happening.
- Minimalist combat and hunting: Venture into tight forest zones inhabited by humanoid creatures. Fight with a slow-reloading rifle for distance and a machete to finish enemies up close.
- Stealth and noise awareness: Movement and gunfire attract attention. Managing sound can be the difference between slipping away and being surrounded.
The core loop blends exploration, reading and collecting clues, finding required items, completing straightforward tasks, and surviving brief hunting encounters. Over roughly 30 minutes, THE WELL delivers a complete story arc—one that tracks a gradual descent into madness, moral decay, and the unsettling transformation of a once-lived-in home into something far darker.
