REAL MOON description

REAL MOON

REAL MOON is a short exploration experience that lets you step onto a scientifically grounded recreation of the Moon. Built using a simulation environment developed through joint research between JAXA and historia Inc., the game presents a lunar surface shaped by observation data and scientific studies, delivering a sense of scale, isolation, and realism as you travel across the regolith.

A Lunar Surface Based on Real Data

  • High-resolution DEM (digital elevation) terrain data to represent lunar topography.
  • Statistical crater distribution to reflect realistic impact patterns.
  • Natural rock dispersion patterns across the surface.
  • Time-varying positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, influencing the feel of the environment as time passes.

The result is a Moon that emphasizes authenticity: terrain undulates with believable elevation changes, craters appear with plausible density and placement, and surface details support the sensation of walking and driving on an actual lunar landscape.

Explore on Foot or by Rover

You can walk across the surface or pilot a rover, choosing your own pace and route as you roam. While the terrain is founded on observation data, additional features—such as crater slopes and related formations—are synthesized according to scientific research and integrated into the environment, supporting more natural traversal and discovery.

A Lone Mission

On the Moon, you are alone, receiving a single mission as you explore. The experience focuses on quiet, open-ended movement through a meticulously constructed landscape, inviting you to take in the surroundings, navigate terrain variations, and observe how the Moon’s surface is structured.
