Fatemender description

Fatemender is a Tarot-themed roguelike deckbuilder that blends strategy and pathfinding into a tense, ever-shifting voyage. Craft a route through a living labyrinth, wield spells to traverse and transform the Labyrinth, and gather power as you strive to escape Purgatory. Your deck of spells—and your wits—are your primary tools as you push toward the Exit.

The world unfolds one tile at a time. As you place Paths and move forward, the Landscape reveals itself, revealing new twists and hazards at every turn. Surprises and deadly foes lurk around every corner, and the Fates themselves watch your progress, ready to twist fate against you. Before each stage, you draw from a Tarot-style Deck of Fates to decide which challenges you must face, and the Fates will do everything in their power to trap you in Purgatory.

Your Paths are not fixed. You can alter routes, backtrack to avoid dead ends, transform tiles, shift entire rows and columns like a Rubik’s cube, or teleport to dodge traps. Every card you play pushes you closer to being forever lost, so careful planning and timely spell-casting are essential—the clock ticks as your deck runs out and your chance to escape slips away.

Across the journey, you meet a cast of powerful spirits doomed to haunt the cursed plane. As you learn their stories and the choices that led them here, you confront questions about your own past and what it means to seek freedom. The mystery deepens as memories resurface, revealing the truth about the world and the power that rules over the afterlife.

Fatemender offers endlessly replayable gameplay, blending handcrafted and procedurally generated stages to ensure fresh challenges. It features 32 Fate Cards and over 40 Journey Cards to unlock and master, 10 varied Landscape tiles each with unique effects, and 10 powerful Artifacts hidden in Temples that you can level up to shaping your fate against the Fates.

Visually, the game pairs beautiful hand-drawn art in a classic woodcut Tarot style with highly detailed painted tiles, delivering a unique and unforgettable visual experience. An eerie original soundtrack—performed on vintage analogue synthesizers—drums up atmosphere as you navigate a moving story about personal choice, loss, and grief that lingers long after you escape the Labyrinth.
