Substructure is a strategic automation game set on a rogue planet drifting into our solar system. Fear and curiosity mingle as you decide whether this world threatens humanity or hides immense opportunities. You establish automated factories and production facilities on the lush surface while you descend into intricate caverns to uncover their secrets as part of a hastily prepared expedition.

Play solo or with friends in multiplayer, building within layered underground networks. Use the strange resources found beneath the surface to industrialize every depth and awaken threats and phenomena that test your systems.

Surface farming meets industrial might. Although far from the habitable zone, the planet hosts lush green fields that offer unexpected agricultural opportunities. Balance the delicate yet sometimes inefficient fields with the demands of factories, or let industry push forward at any cost. Start with seeded crops powering your first combustion generators, then scale to drone-operated megafarms that sustain entire sections of your mission.

Seek out new raw materials to process into advanced equipment and improve efficiency as you push toward the planet’s core. Pull water from the air to produce nitrogen and lubricants, assemble logic units for advanced logistics, and optimize throughput across your network. Complex production chains drive your journey.

A surface expedition only reveals surface answers. To truly understand the world, you must dig deeper. Build massive programmable platforms that move materials, products, and entire factory rails between cavern layers, revealing new biomes and the resources, opportunities, and threats they bring. Drilling through deeper layers presents new challenges: you’ll craft tools to pierce tougher strata, and contend with limited space and light.

Resource behavior varies: rocks may be impossible to mine in direct sunlight, plants can be underground-only, and materials near the core may be easier to process. You’ll manage humidity, heat, light, and more, and learn to reuse resources from lower layers above for greater efficiency.

As you uncover deeper riches, you’ll gain ways to improve above: catalysts, research units, and more advanced power sources. Substructure rewards exploration with expanding capabilities and new opportunities.

Multiplayer is built in from the start. Host new or existing saves, switch modes, and play with friends at any scale. The game is designed for modding: script edits to rebalance or add resources, buildings, and recipes, plus a simple art pipeline to introduce new visuals. Substructure invites you to customize and share your experience with the world.
