Hierosaga Overture description
Overture is the initial proof‑of‑concept iteration of HIEROSAGA, presenting the first chapter of the story. It covers the arrival into the desert town of Akimor and the majority of the first dungeon, and it includes an infinite mode that leverages the generation algorithm to deliver a deeper roguelike experience.
Storywise, the adventure follows a small‑town knight who travels east toward a mythical desert town in search of riches and ancient treasure. Along the journey he encounters a rowdy gang of slave traders and their captive, a scheming mage who accidentally drags them all—and perhaps the world—into hot water.
Genre and DNA: a rogue‑lite tactical role‑playing game inspired by classic titles like Azure Dreams, Tactics Ogre, and Chrono Trigger. The game blends strategic combat with open exploration, inviting players to shape their path through skill‑granting artefacts and flexible builds.
Exploration and progression unfold in two modes. In free movement “Exploration mode,” you roam outside of combat, uncovering secrets, discovering helpful items, and collecting artefacts that grant new abilities. Use the equip menu to experiment with your build and prepare for whatever lies around the next corner.
When enemies are near, the game shifts into a grid‑based “Combat mode,” anchoring you to a battle board where combat becomes a turn‑based tactical duel. Each encounter resembles a chess match on a dungeon board, with the objectives of escaping, surviving, or eliminating all foes.
Overture emphasizes roguelike replayability through its procedural design, especially in the infinite mode that maximizes the generation algorithm to create new and challenging dungeon layouts on every run. The combination of free exploration, item‑driven customization, and tight grid combat delivers a compact, strategic experience that sets the stage for the broader HIEROSAGA saga.
