It spawns multiple full game instances on a single machine, splits the screen, and assigns a controller to each one. Each splitscreen player runs a real, independent game—everyone can go online, invite friends, trigger different events, or even control a separate display. We’ve pushed it to 12 players on a single machine, and anything beyond that is between you and your hardware.
