Nimue description
Nimue
A solitary visual novel about memory, longing, and the cost of love. A man awakens by a lake with no name or past. Rescued by Seren, a pilgrim bound for the shrine of Saint Nimue, he slowly learns a world that venerates a saint who once sealed away an evil sorcerer. As his memories begin to return, questions surface: who was he before the fall, who is the woman called Saint Nimue, and why did he lie at the lake’s bottom?
The narrative unfolds from the perspective of a man who has lost his identity. Names he cannot recall appear as blank boxes (□□). When memory returns, those blanks fill in, reshaping who he was and what he believed.
Three endings determine the fate of both him and the world around him: Return. Go back. Grant her wish. Each choice carries weight and leads to a distinct, morally complex conclusion. Yet none offers salvation—only consequences that ripple through memory, duty, and desire.
This is a tale of unrequited love. It is not a story of revenge or anger. The man loved deeply, even though that love was not returned. The quiet, aching realism at the heart of Nimue invites you to inhabit the ache, question loyalties, and face the cost of every decision.
Gameplay and scope: approximately 1–2 hours of playtime with three endings. The game is a single-player experience told through text, choices, and visual storytelling—with a focus on atmosphere over action.
Language and content: Originally in Japanese, with English support planned. Topics include emotional distress and themes related to death.
Developer note: A solo-developed visual novel that explores unreturned affection through a concise, intimate narrative. Some visual assets were created with AI-generated imagery, reflecting a blend of personal storytelling and modern tooling.
Nimue offers a somber, lyrical mood, minimal intervention, and symbolic memory fragments that linger after the screen fades. It is designed for players who seek a thoughtful, emotionally charged experience rather than spectacle.
