Four years after the original, GunBird 2 unleashes a fresh, more powerful quintet and an exciting blend of classic arcade action with new mechanics. Building on the Level-Based Charge Shot Attack that impressed players in STRIKERS II, the game introduces a bold new system: the Close Combat attack on the third button. In addition, bonus items that sparkle for 2000 points now include a CHAIN System, rewarding players for hitting enemies in rapid succession to rack up higher scores.

GunBird 2 preserves the familiar arcade feel with 8-way control via a joystick and 3-button play. The shooter features 8 stages and supports 2-player simultaneous play with mid-game joining, letting friends jump in as the action unfolds. The Shot button carries a 3-level charge mechanic; hold to unleash a charged attack, power up to four levels by collecting Power-Up items, and unleash the level-aligned power when needed. The Bomb button provides emergency evasion, while the Close-Range Attack delivers an enormously powerful strike — highly effective up close, but risky to use.

A Level Gauge and Level Stock Gauge system fuels the scoring and combat flow. Hitting enemies fills the Level Gauge, and Levels 3 and above are added to the Stock Gauge, enhancing the potential for big plays as you advance. Beyond the action, the game presents a world-spanning quest as five characters embark on a mission to secure a legendary panacea passed down through ancient times. To obtain it, they must collect three secret elixirs — the Sun Fragment, Star Whisper, and Moon Dew — and reach the god dwelling in a phantom underground temple, all while a trio of villains led by a formidable sky pirate blocks their path.

The cast features new character designs by Masato Natsumoto, bringing fresh personalities to life alongside the familiar trio.

• Marion — Little Great Wizard, age 9 (mental age 17). A mischievous magical girl from England who rides a broom and battles with magic-powered flair.
• Tavia — The Flying Honor Student, age 9. From Germany, she pilots a backpack-type rocket pack and aims to reform her rowdy classmate Marion.
• Alucard — The Lonely Vampire, 300 years old. A dashing figure who can move with daylight-ready, human-like agility after training.
• Heikobu — Brown-Skinned Corpulent Figure, 18. An Arabian prince-collector who flies aboard a Flying Carpet seeking ultimate treasure.
• Balpiro — Military Robot from Russia. A production model built from advanced combat blueprints, using rocket propulsion for flight.

GunBird 2 invites players to chase the panacea, master the new Close Combat option, chain high scores through continuous shots, and enjoy a vivid, fast-paced arcade adventure across eight stages with a dynamic two-player mode. Can you outmaneuver the villains and claim the legendary cure?
