On Tape << Rewind description

On Tape << Rewind

On Tape << Rewind is a psychological horror game where you solve a mystery through cassette tapes. You arrive at the isolated cabin of physicist Fred Karlsen, who has vanished, leaving behind scattered tapes and a single fractured message. Fred’s voice crackles through static, frightened and uncertain—the warning is clear: something is out there listening back.

Your investigation revolves around a dusty cassette recorder, silent walls, and a web of clues hidden in sound. Move through the cabin, play each tape, and search for hints that point to the next recording. The core mechanic is audio manipulation: you can tune frequencies, filter hiss, and amplify fragments to reveal hidden messages buried in the noise.

Tape by tape, the mystery unfolds. The audio logs form a mosaic—from Cold War research notes to an old news broadcast, medical journals, experimental music, and stray static. Amid these recordings lies an unfinished letter to an old friend—the human thread binding Fred’s life to the thing he found in the recordings.

As you listen, you uncover Fred’s growing fear and his obsession with something that listened back. The investigation becomes a journey through his memories, rewinding through fragments of his life to track the trail the tapes left behind. Each recovered fragment nudges you toward a new clue, a new piece of the puzzle, and a deeper strand of the truth about what happened out there.

The atmosphere blends isolation, creeping unease, and a sense that voices inhabit the static itself. The more you reveal, the more the line between investigator and subject blurs, until the recordings themselves begin to alter your perception of reality. The mystery challenges you to listen closely, think critically, and trust what surfaces from the hiss.

Questions linger as you piece together Fred’s fate: What did he discover in those recordings? What did it do to him to be hunted by whatever listens back? Why did he choose to stay out here and confront it alone? And what remains lurking in the static, waiting to be heard by those who dare to rewind?

On Tape << Rewind invites you to uncover the truth through sound—an intimate, atmospheric detective story where every tape leads to another mystery and every frequency could reveal the final answer.
