The Devil Card description

The Devil Card — Card Battler on a 3×3 Grid

The Devil Card is a solo confrontation card game on a compact 3×3 grid, inspired by the classic Triple Triad battles from Final Fantasy. You begin each match by selecting five cards from your collection. Each card carries four numeric values, one on each edge, which determine its strength against neighboring cards. You and your opponent take turns placing cards on the grid. When two cards touch, the adjacent edge values are compared. If your edge is higher, the opposing card is flipped and changes ownership’s color to reflect the new control.

Battles run over two rounds, with every cell populated in each round. At the end of a round, the side that controls more cells wins. If the round ends in a draw, it is replayed and neither side earns the victory. Winning both rounds grants you the opportunity to permanently steal one card from your opponent’s deck, adding it to your own collection. This cycle repeats across a campaign, steadily expanding your deck and opening up more advanced strategies in later battles.

Special Rules

Each opponent in the campaign brings a distinct set of official rules. The game includes these rulesets:

  • Open: All cards are visible from the start.
  • Random: Card positions are shuffled at the beginning of each round.
  • Mirror: Cards with the same touching values flip.
  • Plus: Flips occur when the sum of touching values matches another sum on the board.
  • Combo: Flipped cards may trigger additional flips in chain reactions.
  • MirrorWalls: Mirrors like Mirror, but edges act as walls that influence flips.
  • Elemental: Cards have elemental types that influence flips through strengths and weaknesses.

Before every battle, the active ruleset is displayed. In Freeplay mode you can enable any combination to practice or craft custom challenges.

Campaign Mode

The Campaign tells a linear story against 25 unique opponents. Each foe uses their own rules, forcing you to adapt your approach with every duel. Defeating opponents unlocks cards from their decks, gradually enlarging your collection. With more than 300 unique cards to collect, your strategic options continually expand as you progress. The ultimate goal is to defeat the Devil, claim his soul card, and complete the campaign.

Freeplay Mode

Freeplay lets you use all unlocked cards and freely configure rules for your battles. It’s ideal for testing strategies, experimenting with rule combinations, or simply playing at your own pace without impacting the story.
