Asterogue description
Asterogue
Asterogue is a fast, minimal roguelike inspired by the classics. You descend through 17 procedurally generated levels inside a hollow asteroid, seeking the Cursed Orb to save the galaxy. Every run places you in a fresh mine, facility, or cavern filled with alien life and space loot. There is no meta-progression—just skill, knowledge, and the thrill of permadeath.
Gameplay
- Procedurally generated levels ensure a unique journey every time, with mines, facilities, and hazardous environments awaiting.
- Seventeen escalating levels challenge you with tougher foes and smarter layouts.
- Turn-based tactical combat with permadeath demands careful positioning, resource use, and planning.
- Hunger system adds strategic resource management: keep your sustenance up or pay the consequences.
- Discover a curated arsenal: futuristic hand weapons, armour, nanotech, meds, chemicals, and consumables.
- Encounter 15+ alien species, each with distinct behaviors to outthink or outfight.
- Pure roguelike mechanics—no permanent upgrades between runs—emphasizing exploration, loot, and skill.
- Short, coffee-break-length sessions, typically 20–30 minutes per run.
- Simple, accessible controls that let you focus on strategy rather than key commands.
Visuals & Feel
Asterogue features gorgeous 8-bit pixel art by Oryx Design Lab, delivering crisp animations and satisfying feedback while keeping the scope tight and focused.
Story
One thousand years of peace have ended. In a dim dive bar, an old man speaks of ancient aliens who returned to drain all goodness from the galaxy into their Cursed Orb. He sketches a map on a napkin and vanishes. Your ship crashes on the asteroid, and you descend into its heart to retrieve the Orb and restore balance.
About the Developer
Asterogue is a solo indie project born from a love of Nethack and Rogue. Built in roughly ten weeks as a tribute to the roguelike genre, it emphasizes procedural generation, meaningful choices, and the pure thrill of permadeath. Expect focused mechanics and tight game feel rather than kitchen-sink complexity.
