Ink & Steel description
Ink & Steel
Ink & Steel is a real-time tactics game that places you in command of thousands of soldiers across massive fantasy battlefields. Lead diverse factions — disciplined knights, skeletal hordes, elven archers, goblin swarms, Viking raiders, and samurai clans — each bringing unique units and towering monsters. The setting is fantasy, but the warfare remains grounded: morale can crumble, flanked units panic, and a shattered line often decides the outcome.
Formation-level command
Command is intuitive yet deep. Select units, drag them into position, and issue orders — advance, charge, hold, or fall back. The battles are massive, but control stays accessible: you guide entire formations while the micro-dynamics of combat unfold on the field.
Each unit carries real mass. Charges transfer momentum through impact: soldiers push, stumble, and give ground, while heavy cavalry can break lines if they connect with the right targets at the right speed. The outcome of a charge depends on what is hit and the momentum behind the strike. (Note: charge damage is demonstrated with a disabled setting in the current build.)
Roguelike campaign
Fight through procedurally generated battles and evolve your army between engagements. Troops can be lost permanently, and you gain new ones through events. Make hard strategic choices about who to reinforce and who to sacrifice, shaping your roster and capabilities as you press deeper into the war.
Custom battles
Set up your own engagements across varied terrain to test army compositions, refine tactics, or simply watch thousands of soldiers collide. Experiment with different formations and orders to discover what works best against each adversary.
Early Access roadmap
Ink & Steel launches into Early Access with full custom battles and the foundations of the roguelike campaign. Development priorities will be guided by player feedback, focusing on what works, what doesn’t, and what you want to see more of. The game is built with modding in mind, using data-driven design to facilitate future content.
Expect additional factions and features as development continues, expanding the roster of armies, units, and battlefield effects to deepen strategic variety and replayability.
