A Whittle Tale description

A Whittle Tale

A Whittle Tale is a charming yet darkly whimsical level-based 3D platformer starring Whittle, a misunderstood young demon who means well but can’t seem to catch a break. Bullied by both angels and demons, his troubles begin when a prank by angels goes wrong—he’s summoned into a heavenly classroom, and in a frantic escape back through the portal it closes too soon, leaving his tail behind. Determined to reclaim what he’s lost, Whittle travels across realms connected by the River Styx, now playfully modernized thanks to Charon’s old-age laziness.

Too tired to ferry souls himself, Charon has installed coin-operated self-service boats, forcing travelers to collect Obal coins to activate journeys between realms. Each realm presents unique environments, collectible challenges, and handcrafted aesthetics, weaving Whittle, his enemies, and the world together in whittled wood, antique toys, and spare parts. This tactile craft gives the game a distinctive charm that stands out in a crowded platforming landscape.

Whittle improvises with makeshift prosthetic tails, each granting new abilities and gameplay twists that help him overcome obstacles and inch closer to the heavenly realm—and his true tail. The mix of clever gadgets and tail-based powers keeps traversal fresh across a variety of bespoke stages, encouraging experimentation and friendly, lighthearted humor amid the danger.

A Whittle Tale blends dark humor, heart, and polished platforming into an experience that’s as funny and endearing as it is imaginative and visually striking. Its level-based design provides accessible progression, while its handcrafted world invites exploration and discovery at every turn.
