Tsukiyo: Battle Doll — Description
Tsukiyo: Battle Doll is a handcrafted 2D Japanese steampunk pixel-art action platformer that blends brutal hack‑and‑slash combat, gore‑heavy encounters, and a deadly, skill‑based combo system. You play as Tsukiyo, an Angel of Death forged by the very system she enforces, moving through a city where power is hidden in the shadows and every fight is a violent ballet of speed, precision, and blood.
Set in an alternate 18th‑century Japan, twenty years before the main events, the Great Steam Revolution unleashes the Heart of Steam. A vast, industrial anarcho‑capitalist city emerges as both people and shogunate gain access to unprecedented technology. What seems like peace masks a quiet struggle for control: a ruling elite retreat into the background while the population believes it is free. Tsukiyo is the instrument of this plan, carrying out the shogunate’s dirty work from the shadows.
- Non‑linear world exploration — navigate a dense, interconnected steampunk city filled with secrets, shortcuts, and hidden truths.
- Savage combat — fast, brutal hack‑and‑slash encounters with a lethal combo system that rewards precision and aggression.
- Epic boss battles — face twisted bosses with unique attack patterns and devastating abilities that push your skill to the limit.
- Psychological narrative — a dark story about guilt, control, obedience, and the cost of believing you are free.
- Handcrafted pixel art — a Japanese steampunk aesthetic brought to life with detailed environments and characters.
- Atmosphere of oppression — mysterious NPCs, hidden agendas, and districts that survive by consuming their own people.
The world reveals its true nature the deeper you go, and your role within it becomes more ambiguous. Tsukiyo’s first mission targets a clan forged by a former Dragon Clan general, the Cicada Clan, which has stolen classified technology to isolate itself from machines and industry.
Demo content includes the opening narrative arc, the first interconnected zones, core movement and combat mechanics, early enemy encounters, and hints of the game's psychological and hallucinatory elements. The demo aims to convey the full game’s tone and brutality, not a sanitized tutorial.
Content warning: the game contains graphic violence and gore, psychological distress, hallucinations, and themes of oppression and moral corruption.
