Holo Picture Viewer description

Holo Picture Viewer

Holo Picture Viewer turns your photo collection into immersive holographic 3D scenes that respond to your head movements in virtual reality, delivering a convincing sense of depth and presence from ordinary images.

All processing runs locally on your PC with no cloud, subscriptions, or data collection. Your photos stay private as you explore them in immersive 3D.

How it works

From a single 2D image, the app estimates depth and constructs a parallax-driven scene you can navigate by turning your head. You can fine‑tune depth and parallax in real time to tailor the 3D look for each picture, achieving the right amount of depth, separation, and motion.

Experiments with Gaussian Splats provide an alternative depth representation that adds more head movement while preserving a convincing sense of space. This approach can yield smoother motion and a richer spatial feel than depth alone.

Rendering and hardware

The built‑in converter runs inside the application and requires an NVIDIA GPU with around 16 GB of VRAM. For flexibility, a standalone Web UI converter is also available, working with 8 GB NVIDIA GPUs or CPU‑only systems, though processing times are longer.

The Web UI supports additional workflows and can be used independently from the main app to accommodate different hardware setups and preferences.

Panorama and external scenes

An experimental panorama mode in the Web UI can turn 180° or 360° equirectangular photos into explorable Gaussian Splat scenes. Holo Picture Viewer can also load and explore external Gaussian Splat scenes (.ply and .spz) with real‑time rendering and VR navigation.
