The subject: Protocol zero description

Protocol Zero: Subject Zero

You awaken as the first subject in the final phase of the Null Institute Protocol Zero trials. The contract you signed with a renowned neurological research foundation binds you to a study where your body becomes the primary variable in a live experiment. The goal is to objectively measure the outer limits of human self‑control, while the reward is simply being first. The experience unfolds through full monitoring—no button presses, only your physical limits, constant focus, and the relentless gaze of a camera and microphone.

This experience relies on an active webcam and microphone. The system analyzes your video and audio in real time, tracking every blink, lip movement, silhouette shift, and hand trajectory. Any deviation from the instructed rules is treated as a critical failure and ends the session immediately. You are designated Subject Zero, cut off from knowledge of what came before or what lies ahead, guided only by voice directions and data fragments that unveil the study’s true scope as you progress.

Four phases of absolute control
  • Stage 1 — No Blink: The system analyzes your eye state to detect eyelid movement. You must refrain from blinking for a fixed period. A tear rolling down your cheek is also considered a violation.
  • Stage 2 — Stillness and Silence: Maintain a completely still posture and remain silent. The silhouette is compared against the original position, and the microphone records any sound above the ambient level, including breathing and incidental noises.
  • Stage 3 — Gesture Reproduction: A short sequence of gestures appears on screen. Reproduce it exactly, in the correct order, within a limited time. Computer vision compares hand trajectories and positions to a reference model; any mismatch triggers a crash.
  • Stage 4 — Move or Freeze: You receive a command to move or freeze depending on a green or red signal. The system continues to monitor immobility during the red‑light phase. A wrong response or movement in the prohibited phase ends the trial as a failure.

The entire ordeal is a test of precision and restraint: your body is the experiment, your mind the instrument, and the feedback comes instantly through the monitoring network. Complete all four stages to prove your control under pressure, while the quiet data streams reveal how tightly human restraint can be measured when every action is quantified and every motion scrutinized.
