IKARUS casts you as a lone, ancient guardian who soars to rescue the Sun-goddess Amaterasu. With time running toward Armageddon, you fight through relentless waves of hostile machines. It blends the speed and precision of classic arcade shoot ’em ups with the strategic depth of a rogue‑like deck-builder, inviting you to plan, execute, and push your flight closer to the sun.

Two-Phase Combat

Every run starts by drafting your approach. Before each wave, queue cards to form the perfect sequence. When the chaos erupts, it’s a test of reflexes and timing: dodge, parry, shoot, and unleash your planned combos at the exact moment to dominate the battlefield. The second phase rewards precision, as your choices in planning translate directly into devastating, screen-clearing responses.

Three Core Archetypes

At the start of each run you select an Archetype and two card colours, shaping your entire strategy.

The Architect (Blue/Green): focus on healing and defense, restoring health to yourself and allies, employing shields and parries, and overwhelming foes with constructs and supportive tools.

The Berserker (Green/Red): push through crowds with raw damage, buffs, and health mechanics that amplify brute force and frontline pressure.

The Catalyst (Red/Blue): risk and rewards collide as you draw aggressively and cast high‑impact offensive spells for explosive results.

Devastating Synergies

Build run‑defining combos by pairing cards and augments from your Archetype. Examples include:

• The Final Gambit: sacrifice health for a massive hand, then unleash Bonfire to burn the hand away and flood the screen with missiles.
• Health Hurts: stack maximum health with Spurting Growth and the Bear.exe construct, powering Gaia Hammer for damage that scales with your vitality.
• Missile Swarms: Butterfly.exe fires missiles on card draw, while Pyre and Flash of Genius churn the deck for a relentless homing‑missile onslaught.

Progression and Power

Each run strengthens you. Earn experience to level up and permanently expand your arsenal for future flights. Failures become fuel for growth as you unlock new cards, upgrades, and player skills. You can push difficulty modifiers for greater rewards and climb the leaderboards to prove your mastery.
