Civica: Italian Renaissance description

Civica: Italian Renaissance

Civica breathes the Italian Renaissance to life, where rising city-states compete for influence as humanist ideals challenge the old dominance of the Church. Artists create masterpieces and powerful families like the Medici maneuver to spread power. This game fuses city-building with first-person role-playing to let you assert yourself as a successful city lord and transform a small Tuscan village into a metropolis.

Build a living, organic metropolis with gridless city design, flexible residential slots, and countless upgrades. Plan production facilities and farms in the surrounding countryside and manage complex production chains to craft mosaics, roof tiles, pottery, wine, and more. Satisfy four resident groups—farmers, craftsmen, citizens, and nobles—with a mix of everyday goods and luxury items.

Public works matter: construct churches, fountains, and schools to raise quality of life and attract higher classes who pay higher taxes and unlock new building possibilities. Establish a dynasty, care for offspring, and influence policy at regular city council meetings with other leaders. Decide whether to embrace new humanist ideals or align with the church, shaping the city’s future.

Engage your residents at the market square, address their needs, and handle occasional quests. You can even influence the council by bribing before elections or stepping in to assist when progress slows. A dynamic goods cycle—primary resources, processed goods, luxury items, and diverse foods—drives your economy, while satisfying the escalating demands of higher social classes requires savvy trade and planning.

Trade with merchants at the marketplace and with surrounding lords to balance supply shortages and keep your city thriving. Roads unfold in flexible, organic shapes, and residential slots adapt to road layouts, forming continuous rows typical of Tuscan towns. Backyards can be upgraded with features like a chicken coop to boost food production.

The city thrives on a realistic, day-night cycle and a dynamic weather system that brings droughts or floods, influencing both life and production. The annual cycle determines crop yields and the cultivation of vegetables and cereals. In line with the Renaissance setting, Civica emphasizes authentic Italian models for flora, fauna, production techniques, resources, and nomenclature of cities, places, and people.

Playing in first-person, you personally extract resources, process materials, craft goods, and oversee building construction. Your actions are shaped by your growing experience, skills, and stats—health, stamina, hunger, and sleep—making every day feel authentic. Civica offers a deep, immersive Renaissance city-building experience where politics, economy, society, and culture intertwine in a living Tuscan world.
