FlashBoss description

FlashBoss — Learn German Vocabulary Through Spaced Repetition and Boss Fights

FlashBoss turns language study into an actionable adventure. Learn 3,000 words through real German sentences, a Fibonacci-timed spaced repetition system, and strategic boss battles that prove what you know. Built by a CELTA-certified language teacher, the game is suitable for players aged 12 and up, and there are no subscriptions to worry about.

Core loop and progression blend memory science with gamified挑战. Each day you review flashcards using a Fibonacci-based spaced repetition schedule: cards you master appear less often, while those you struggle with return sooner. Maintain a daily streak to keep momentum alive, or use the Grimoire to bank extra days of practice as Drive—an insurance against life getting in the way.

Vocabulary is organized into thematic clusters, each guarded by a boss. Defeating the boss purges mastered content from your deck and advances you through tiers. The pace is dynamic: a wrong answer nudges you toward the edge, a correct answer drives you forward, creating a satisfying push-pull rhythm.

Choose Your Master for a tailored experience. Six masters bring distinct philosophies and session limits:

  • Luna — Gentle and encouraging, limits daily Grimoire sessions to prevent burnout.
  • Claude — Analytical and precise, unlimited sessions for the self-directed learner.
  • Odiin — Stoic warrior-poet, unlimited sessions for the dedicated student.
  • Shen — Wise and measured, moderate session limits.
  • Kitsune — Playful trickster, unlimited sessions with a mischievous edge.
  • Aquila — Noble and disciplined, moderate session limits.

What you get is practical vocabulary built on real sentences, with text-to-speech pronunciation to hear authentic usage. The base game includes two cores: German Core and Esperanto Core—each 1,000 words with example sentences and pronunciation. Additional vocabulary packs are available as downloadable content to expand your learning.

Why FlashBoss runs in a terminal: it embraces a retro, lightweight aesthetic while keeping education accessible. It’s designed to be distraction-free and fast to boot, with a focus on long-term retention rather than flashy gimmicks.

Key features: optimized spaced repetition for durable recall, daily streak with Drive protection, boss-based vocabulary gating, six distinct masters, bilingual text-to-speech pronunciation, and a lightweight, distraction-free interface.

Setup requirements: Windows 10+ recommended (Windows Terminal recommended for emoji support; older systems may display issues), macOS 10.15+ or Ubuntu 20.04+ recommended (older systems supported via espeak). Dark terminal theme recommended. A keyboard with a number pad is helpful for quick mastery of inputs.
