Vocal Horror Stories - Gaja description
Vocal Horror Stories – Gaja
Vocal Horror Stories is an episodic, voice-interactive psychological horror experience set in India. Each episode is self-contained and shaped by your voice; every spoken word can bend the environment and influence Shivani’s mental state, turning sound into a tool or a threat as suspense tightens.
In the premiere episode, you embody Shivani, a young woman from Chennai living with anxiety. Amid the COVID lockdown, she hunts for her missing mother, Maya, following scattered clues cradled in her own apartment. An enigmatic elephant-headed ally named Gaja (elephant in Sanskrit) offers assistance—but at a price. Who is Gaja, what is his agenda, and will Shivani ever find Maya?
Voice interaction drives the horror and the investigation. Shouting or whispering can tilt danger one way or another; speaking certain words can steady your nerves and unlock new paths. Several devices within Shivani’s home respond to your voice, turning your breath, tone, and cadence into real influence over the environment.
To solve the case, you must listen closely to the clues hidden in the apartment’s rooms, texts, and messages. You have questions, and your missing mother may hold the key answers. Piece together fragments and deduce the truth as Shivani’s reality shifts around you.
The storytelling approach is atmospheric rather than direct: occurrences, echoes, and cryptic hints within the apartment guide your deductions. The narrative draws on Indian folklore and cultural sentiment, grounding the experience in a uniquely local texture that resonates with familiar myths, fears, and hopes.
Gaja and folklore: Gaja is more than a helper—his presence weaves Indian mythic motifs into the mechanics, challenging you to judge trust and motive as the narrative unfolds. The elephant-headed figure becomes a symbolic force that shapes both the fear and the choices you make along Shivani’s path.
Replayability and mood: The episode responds to your voice, with anger potentially escalating danger and calmness opening alternative paths and revelations. The design rewards mindful listening, controlled breath, and deliberate articulation, inviting players to replay to uncover hidden layers and new outcomes.
Key aspects of the experience include:
- Daylight horror: there is no need for darkness to hide—tension comes from atmosphere, not shadows
- Story-rich, narrative-driven design with a retro VHS aesthetic
- In-game text messages from NPCs and responsive environmental cues
- Voice activity tracking that makes your spoken words central to the mystery
- Elements rooted in Indian culture, folklore, and contemporary life
