BATIKAN — Description
BATIKAN is a story-driven tactical fantasy RPG where you create a single character and guide a convoy of heroes through a richly detailed world shaped by politics, myth, and personal choice. Each starting hero unlocks a unique gameplay path and environment, delivering a deeply immersive and distinct experience with every run.
Set in an undocumented era of the colonial transition period in the Philippines, the game blends actual history with local mythology. You’ll play as different Bagani and local heroes, meet legendary figures, and explore a land of warriors where secrets linger in the shadows. The tone is mature, grounded in mythic realism where politics mingle with supernatural forces.
BATIKAN features branching storylines and multiple endings driven by moral dilemmas. Turn-based combat emphasizes positioning, team composition, environment, energy management, and synergy. Dialogue choices, faction alliances, and builds meaningfully affect outcomes, all presented in a top-down/third-person view with a free-flowing camera and cinematic cutscenes.
Core systems include a planting system, a worship system, and a tattoo-based skill tree that also governs reputation. Magic-imbued accessories provide a shield system, while a summoning system, thirst and hunger mechanics, and repair and crafting for weapons round out the experience. You’ll manage inventory, active and passive skills, spellcasting, and health/mana as you rise up to level 20.
You can recruit characters from diverse tribes inhabiting the archipelago; companions join your party to fight beside you. The world breathes with cultural identity—folklore, mythic creatures, vivid textiles, and architectural details—woven into a living tapestry of tribal unity and colonial resistance.
Visually, BATIKAN uses fully 3D rendered backgrounds and characters with an art direction that blends semi-realistic style and cinematic moments. Developed in UE5 by Filipino artists, the game pairs orchestral music with indigenous instruments such as kulintang, agong, jaw harp, and bamboo flutes to heighten the narrative beats. Some dialogue is fully voiced, with others partially voiced, complemented by immersive sound effects that emphasize mood and environment.
The setting centers on a volatile, enchanted landscape during a volcanic era, where babaylans wield power, Inquisition forces rise, and foreign powers press the archipelago. Legends, spirits, and warring tribes collide as players navigate loyalty, destiny, and survival. Explore places like Lusong, Cordillera highlands, and Mindanao communities, encounter legendary heroes like Lam-ang, and decide whether to halt evil now or defer its impact to future generations.
A potential multiplayer mode looms for a future expansion on a separate island, inviting the community to help shape the world. BATIKAN promises an old-school RPG vibe with modern mechanics, a rich cast, and a cinematic, movie-like journey through a mythic yet grounded past.
