Card Chess is a free and open-source online PvP strategy game that blends the classic logic of chess with the dynamic tactics of card play. Inspired by chess and Magic: The Gathering, it challenges you to outthink your opponent in a duel where every move is enriched by a customizable deck of cards.

Each player begins with a lone king and a custom 60-card deck. The deck serves as your toolkit for the match: you can deploy pieces, destroy enemy pieces, draw cards, and exert tactical control over the board. The core idea is to combine card effects with traditional chess movement. You influence when and how pieces appear on the board, when to damage or remove opposing pieces, and when to draw additional options, then execute precise chess moves to press your advantage.

Gameplay centers on the interaction between card play and piece movement. Cards can directly shape the battlefield and alter the tempo of the game, while standard chess rules govern how your pieces travel, attack, and defend. The objective remains familiar—outmaneuver your opponent and capture their king directly. A successful combination of card timing and calculated moves can create space, trap threats, and tilt the balance in moments you wouldn’t expect from a pure chess match.

Future plans focus on expanding both deck diversity and strategic depth. After the community reaches roughly 500 total games played, a Deck Editor and new cards will be introduced, enabling players to craft personalized strategies while remaining within the balanced framework of the shared deck. As the player base grows, the project foresees further expansion and refactoring, adding more mechanics, content, and richer strategic options while keeping the game freely accessible to all.
