Express 404 description

Express 404

You are the last barrier between order and disaster. You drive a night train through endless storms, with passengers behind you. One of them is not human. Every ride is different, and every mistake costs money. Each station raises the quota, and the pressure builds with every destination.

This is a roguelite train-driver paranoia simulator where survival is only part of the job. The train only moves while you hold the lever; release it and speed drops, forcing you to balance progress with risk. Watch the Storm, monitor the indicators, and decide how far to push your run.

Core loop

  • Train movement depends on your grip—hold to advance, release to slow down, all while lightning flashes hammer the rails.
  • Track a set of vital meters: Maximum speed, Acceleration, Drag, Lightning rate, Lightning duration, Distance to station, and your progress toward the quota.
  • Reach the quota before arrival to survive the run; fail the quota and the run ends badly.

The Mimic among the passengers

  • There are 4–8 passengers per ride. One is a mimic, indistinguishable until the moment of danger.
  • The mimic can strike only during lightning flashes; in a split second, red eyes appear, a movement betrays it, or a silhouette vanishes.
  • Kick the wrong passenger and you lose profit; ignore the mimic and you risk lives.
  • The longer the ride, the hungrier the mimic becomes, heightening the tension and risk with every kilometer.

Between stations: build the train, break the system

  • Between stops you can buy upgrades that radically alter each run, reshaping what your strategy looks like.
  • Upgrades include: increasing lightning frequency, reducing safe time between kills, profiting from dead passengers, boosting maximum speed, and increasing kill chance.
  • You can reveal subtle signs, manipulate hunger, and turn chaos into income—building a run that fits your preferred style.

Playstyle and strategies

  • Customize your build for fast delivery, pushing the train and the quota with precision.
  • Aim for maximum suspicion control to minimize misfires and keep the passengers calm—until the mimic springs.
  • Embrace a high-risk, death- economy approach that leverages the profits (and losses) of every passenger.
  • Experiment with lightning-abuse strategies to squeeze every advantage from the storm and the system.

Find broken combinations, push the system, and see how far you can go before the quota crushes you. Express 404 asks: can you keep the train running, spot the impostor, and turn chaos into income?
