Back alley chronicle-Episode saeki- description

Back alley chronicle - Episode Saeki -

This game is a prequel to Rojiura Hyōryūki, unfolding before the Early Access title Old Book Festival Arc. It is a compact life simulation that takes place entirely inside the protagonist's home, following Sumire Saeki, a third-year middle school student who now lives alone. The story begins in winter, the moment she moves in, unable to attend school and with her mother absent. Her routine starts to change when Sakurako Maeda, a classmate, visits to drop off handouts, gently nudging Sumire toward a new rhythm.

The game spans 12 days on-screen, but it hints at a longer arc in the quiet drift of time. It is divided into two intertwined modes: Reality Part and Dream Part.

Reality Part is a time-management life simulation. Each day contains six time periods: Morning, Late Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night, and Late Night. Players select one action per period, shaping Sumire's ordinary life. Some days may restrict free actions, forcing careful planning. Everyday activities form the core: making a drink, reading a book, taking a bath. When Sakurako visits, several actions can be performed together with her, creating small, cooperative moments that influence the day’s mood and future possibilities.

Dream Part invites exploration beyond the walls in a maze drawn from the back alleys. Here the goal is to navigate to the exit, collecting resources along the way. Food restores stamina, while talismans bolster exploration, offering advantages and new routes. The maze changes with each day, and the conditions needed to escape shift, so players must adapt their strategy rather than rely on a single approach.

Endings are earned through choices in both parts. There are three main endings, with six variations of post-ending monologues, encouraging players to replay and discover different emotional outcomes and character dynamics.

As a self-contained prequel, Episode Saeki emphasizes intimate storytelling focused on home life, memory, and the hints of a larger mystery linked to the Rojiura world. Your actions—how Sumire spends her days, and how she moves through dream-space—shape not just the day-to-day, but the final resolution of her winter, her friendship with Sakurako, and the secrets she uncovers in the back alley.

Although anchored in Sumire's routine, Episode Saeki rewards attentive play with small, meaningful moments—a shared drink, a quiet talk, or a missed bus—but those micro-events can tilt the mood, subtly guiding endings. The dual structure encourages replay, as different actions lead to alternate dream routes and change which talismans or foods are available. The result is a compact, contemplative experience that blends domestic life with surreal exploration, while laying groundwork for the Rojiura lore fans know from Rojiura Hyōryūki.
