Out of Time — A Digital Sanctuary

Out of Time is a digital art installation, not a classic game. It serves as a meditation and art-therapeutic platform, inviting immersion into a state of flow where the boundaries between time and space blur. The experience seeks katharsis—emotional purification and a confrontation with one’s own process of discovery—through aesthetics and primal art therapy. Rooted in deep philosophical inquiry, it guides you toward a contemplative space rather than typical gameplay.

Drawing on the 17th-century philosophy of Robert Fludd, the installation offers an exploration of the emerging realm of Entity: from dense, dark matter (hyle) through the abyss (abyssus) and chaos, toward the ethereal function of fog (caligo). This journey is presented as a radical art experience, a place to be rather than a place to win or solve. It is a sanctuary designed to cultivate inner listening and reflection.

This is not a traditional game. The installation abandons standard mechanics, menus, and goals to enable a full, physical presence. Enter for an experience that transcends conventional interaction, inviting you to observe, breathe, and let thoughts unfold. Time here is absolute freedom: there is no fixed duration.

You may linger for 15 minutes, several hours, or any length that serves your needs. No objectives are imposed; your task is simply to be with the moment and allow your inner flow to unfold.

A wordless narrative unfolds through light, geometry, and your own movement. The experience is accessible to everyone, regardless of language. Space itself becomes a dialog—your motion creates meaning as you encounter invisible sound paths and tunnels guided by what you hear.

Out of Time provides digital solace and supports cognitive development by promoting a state of deep flow and stress reduction. It is a curated environment where attention can settle, thoughts can reorganize, and self-awareness can emerge in a safe, immersive setting.

Artistic Legacy and Technology

The project is grounded in historical research of new media art and began as a core diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. After premiering at major exhibitions, including the 10th Triennial of Polish Graphic Art, it has been fully reimagined in Unreal Engine 5, yielding a high-fidelity multisensory environment that blends philosophical inquiry with cutting-edge VR technology.

Technical Information

The experience is a personal extension of the body in a natural meditative flow. Controls require motion controllers, and headphones are necessary to engage the designed soundscape. For comfort, the VR setup accommodates standing, sitting, or lying positions, with an emphasis on smooth, non-disruptive movement.
