Give up the Ghost description
Give up the Ghost
Give up the Ghost is a story-driven mystery RPG set in a gothic industrial world. Step into the role of the Overseer, Alhart, a one-eyed wanderer who can see through small objects placed in the hollow of the skull—your Eyes—which guide you through the city and pierce every conversation.
There is no combat. This slow-burning psychological thriller relies on atmosphere, dialogue, and exploration to unravel an apocalyptic conspiracy and heal the wound at Forde’s heart. Your progress depends on dialogue and what you choose to reveal or conceal. The Eyes chime in constantly, guiding you to overlooked clues and nudging you toward uncomfortable truths. You navigate a city that treats you as an outsider, while your status as the disowned Fordite heir quietly reshapes how residents respond to you. Every conversation, every withheld piece of history, edges you closer to the moment when the conspiracy and your family’s pain intersect.
Forde is a walled city ringed by a vast ethereal plain. It was once the beating heart of the world, now fading, haunted by a prophecy that the spirits of the dead will invade. You arrive at the city during its final days, and those days will become yours. The locals fear you as an outsider, while you are the disowned heir to the Fordite throne, caught between worlds—the stranger and the scion. Forde’s atmosphere blends ironwork, gaslight, and ash-laden skies, with the ethereal plain shaping mood and memory as you move through sunless courtyards, hidden rooms, and whispered histories.
As the Overseer, your choices shape your relationship with Forde. Explore its streets, follow threads of a conspiracy tying your family’s ancient pain to the city’s fate, and confront the source of that pain. The Eyes challenge you, reveal clues, and color the dialogue as you move toward a reckoning. In the end, you decide how the city’s story ends—and whether you can heal what was broken. The path you choose will test loyalties and define what you owe to a city that may yet forgive you or condemn you.
Give up the Ghost rewards patient exploration and moral ambiguity. The city’s secrets bend to your choices, and your relationship with Forde evolves as you weigh kinship, trust, and justice. This is a game about healing wounds history cannot forget, and about asking what it costs to become the person who can stand before a ruined city and say, perhaps, that it is not beyond repair.
