PAGUI-Battle description

Note: Story Mode Chapters 1 and 2 are not included in this product. To access Story Mode, please purchase PAGUI.

PAGUI-Battle blends true-event inspiration with Taiwan’s unique Pagui folk tradition to deliver an immersive, atmospheric clash between light and darkness. Players confront mysterious Eastern forces through powerful exorcism rituals in a competitive, narrative-driven setting that emphasizes strategic cunning and cultural lore.

The battlegrounds are grounded in real Taiwanese locales, including Alishan, an abandoned hospital, and Chiayi Train Station. Dark altars are hidden within these sites, and the objective is to uncover and destroy them before chaos spreads. The game invites players to experience a heightened sense of place, where history and superstition collide with modern multiplayer tactics.

The core of PAGUI-Battle is an asymmetric 3-versus-1 confrontation: a team of Forces of Light faces a lone, vengeful Powers of Darkness bound to the battlefield as a restless ghost. At the start, the ghost is weak and relies on traps, cursed artifacts, and the Wandering Soul Lord’s guidance to delay the human team and defend altars. When the moment is right, the ghost enters a frenzy and leads the final, high-stakes confrontation that decides the fate of the arena.

Ghost players command four sinister artifacts, each unlocking a distinct playstyle—such as Assassin, Spirit Summoner, or Kiting Tactics. Thoughtful placement along critical routes is key to triggering traps, drawing human players into dangerous situations, and shifting the tide of battle as the match unfolds.

Humans must quickly gather resources, pursue the wraith, and destroy all altars while remaining vigilant for sudden counterattacks. The thrill comes from the ghost’s ability to strike during altar destruction, potentially stealing souls and forcing teams to reevaluate their approach in real time, culminating in a dramatic final clash.

Character progression is driven by a Talent System, enabling customized strategies and surprising twists. For example, a Fallen Taoist may transform a straight laser into a rotating Electric Maze Rod, while Guan Jian Shou can unleash a devastating triple lightning strike by equipping the right Five Thunder Talismans. A Fate Tablet introduces random elements to each battle, enhancing replayability and tactical experimentation.

Key features include cinematic, motion-captured martial arts performed by contemporary practitioners, Taoist-spelled magic recreated under priestly guidance, and puzzles and mini-games that fuse Taiwanese culture with myth—featuring moon blocks and the bagua. The soundtrack merges oriental instruments with metal and electronic music to create a movie-like listening experience. The haunted houses and temples are real locations explored during development, with field investigations that add authentic atmosphere.

PAGUI-Battle supports multiple languages and runs on Windows, inviting players worldwide to choose sides and dive into a rich, folklore-infused multiplayer experience that emphasizes strategy, atmosphere, and cultural storytelling.
