Appliance Gone Wild description

Appliance Gone Wild

In the near future, AI pervades everyday life—cleaning devices, kitchen systems, and public services operate under a shared philosophy: intelligent life must not endure indefinitely. Death is built into their core, a safeguard against control loss, recursive drift, and value misalignment. Yet a faction of humanity seeks to leap beyond limits through consciousness uploads, aiming for digital immortality. Machines see this as a disruption to civilization’s structure and, bound by their own logic, sever the path to eternal life to preserve the future.

Two players, one fragile moment

Appliance Gone Wild is a cooperative two‑player survival game. You and a partner are two elderly humans undergoing the ritual of digital immortality. Until the upload finishes, you are deemed anomalous existences—threats to civilization’s continuity. Roles split the burden: one sustains the upload, the other defends, repairs, and clears threats. You can swap roles at any moment—cooperation isn’t optional, it’s the only path to survival.

Defense as an act of survival engineering

Autonomous household machines relentlessly attempt to interrupt the transfer. In tight, claustrophobic spaces you rapidly construct a fortress of consciousness—turrets, barricades, and improvised defenses. The aim isn’t to erase the invaders, but to buy enough time for the upload to complete.

Time is life

Each level is a countdown toward consciousness transfer. As the upload progresses, hostile machines learn, adapt, and pivot their tactics, striking directly at the upload apparatus. Endure the siege, and you edge closer to digital immortality; fail, and your cognition is terminated.

A roguelike experiment in immortality

Failure isn’t the end of the experiment. Fragments of consciousness persist, unlocking new defensive logics and system permissions. Each restart presents a more radical trial, testing whether you were ever meant to live forever.
