Legatus description
Legatus casts you as the commander of a Roman legion pressed to the edge of the known world. The Empire is an insatiable machine—its greatness built on the bones of conquered tribes, its heart beating as long as legions bring gold and thousands of slaves back to the capital. Your task is clear: conquer wild lands, secure steady resources, and plant the law of Rome where chaos reigned. In this harsh Roman world there is no place for the weak. You are the Emperor's will, his punishing sword, and his architect.
Build your legion and military camp, provide everything your soldiers need. The camp is your fortress and factory: rations produced, armor repaired, drills daily. Recruits arrive green; they must leave as hardened killers. Absolute control is required; rely on Centurions to oversee training efficiency and daily life. Plan schedules: one century on guard, another building fortifications, a third recovering strength. Medicine becomes strategic: return the wounded to front lines or risk the legion dissolving.
The legion brings war and order: a field camp attracts civilian settlement; trade with caravans and local production turns wasteland into a province. Manage this symbiosis: soldiers spend coin in taverns and lupanars; increase population with enslaved tribes to squeeze productivity. When the trumpet calls, this city remains your outpost; you are forging Rome for centuries to come.
Ahead lie vast lands, hiding riches and ruins. Send scouts to find resources and points of interest. Dozens of tribes watch your moves. Will you be a wise patron aiding merchants and guarding the weak, or move through their lands with fire and sword? Your cruelty may unite them against you. And beyond, Germanic and Hunnic hordes mass from north and east, raiding like a force of nature.
On the battlefield, victory is forged long before the clash. Through optimized supply chains and the forges of your camp, your soldiers will wear the finest gear. Constant drills turn recruits into an elite force. Form specialized units for any task—from crushing advance of heavy Praetorians to swift strikes of light Velites. In combat, command mastery matters more than numbers: timely maneuvers and smart use of different troop types crush massive barbarian armies and carry Rome's will to the heart of hostile lands.
