SGS Ashes of Dawn description

Ashes of Dawn 2040

Ashes of Dawn 2040 is a turn-based post-apocalyptic wargame set in Central and Eastern Europe after a nuclear catastrophe. In 2028 the world fractures, leaving sticky swamps, arid mountains, irradiated forests, ruined cities, and vast refugee camps. By 2040, survivors clash for power across a fractured landscape where every decision matters and every turn spans one brutal month.

You choose one of two enduring ideologies: NARDO — the New Alliance for Resilient Defense of the West, the democratic heir to NATO, defending impregnable strongholds such as Scapa and Krakow and forging influence with nations like the Eagles of the Carpathians and the Sons of the Republic; or VARPAC — the Varyaga Pact, the Warsaw Pact heir, uniting Slavic peoples under an authoritarian banner and dominating the Donbass steppes with allies like the Wolves of the Volga and the Amazons of the New Tsar.

The core choice at the start is stark: restore civilization through reconstruction and hope, or unleash chaos by empowering slavers, cults, criminal gangs, and extremists to forge a reign of terror. In May 2040 a window opens: NARDO counterattacks to break VARPAC, while VARPAC pushes into the West to impose its empire. As leader, you steer one of the two surviving sides across every monthly turn, where a single raid, a mass desertion, or a surprising event can redefine the balance of power.

Ashes of Dawn 2040 stands among the few turn-based post-apocalyptic wargames blending strategic depth with board-game accessibility. Deploy units on a zone map, manage replacements, and choreograph movements as in a hybrid board game. VARPAC often holds a numerical edge, but NARDO maintains parity by leveraging balanced forces and dangerous, smaller factions that can become pivotal assets.

The contest centers on securing and defending strongholds, supply centers, and key strategic points, all while contested terrain and irradiated winters threaten every plan. Supply lines, terrain exploitation, and fragile alliances are essential to success. Dynamic maps and events inject diplomatic, military, and economic chaos, delivering immense replayability. At the outset you declare the world you want to shape after the end—the game threads your long-term vision into every decision.

Expect a game of roughly two hours. The challenge is uneven: NARDO presents a tougher test, while VARPAC pressures through relentless offensives. Ashes of Dawn 2040 invites you to craft a legacy in a shattered Europe—where strategy, negotiation, and brave choices determine who survives, and who rules.
