A Case of Missing Identity description
A Case of Missing Identity
From the creator of Veins Like Tapeworms, this is a point-and-click horror/tragedy visual novel about what it means to be human when your very existence is not.
Synopsis You awaken alone in a city of Heroes and Tethers—Humans. You are not Human. You are the shadow of your Tether, a girl who haunts your dreams but whose face you’ve never seen. Wander the empty halls, slip into the living quarters of stray Humans, and learn what makes them tick. Listen to their plights, break their wills, or end their stories—the choices are yours, and every decision shapes who you are.
The game centers on Perdita, a defined protagonist who arrives as a lonely, four‑armed monster with a heavy heart. Created for a world not built for her, she carries thoughts and feelings that you can refine. Each decision is a thought in her head, and every trait she gains narrows or expands her future.
Structure and playthroughs A Case of Missing Identity unfolds in five Acts: The Inception, The Formation, The Procession, The Completion, and The Cannibalization. The core beats stay the same—you roam the apartment where Perdita was formed, enter residents’ lives, and shape their immediate futures—but no two runs are the same. Traits you nurture or deny steer how Humans react, how Distortions behave, and what paths become possible.
Distortions and endings Meet five distinct Distortions—Draconic Mania, The One in the Lotus, Wisteria’s Heavenly Knight, Wrath’s Divinity, and Our Beautiful Vision. Distortions reveal their own histories and alter Perdita’s moral compass; with enough insight, you may influence their futures at the story’s end. There are at least six heart-wrenching endings, each colored by your choices and the traits you allowed to shape Perdita.
Trait system The Trait system makes Perdita into a reflection of your decisions. From how observant she becomes to whether she softens toward or hardens against Humans and Distortions, traits accumulate as you play. Mix and match to sculpt a perception of humanity that suits your approach—mercy, calculation, or a perilous longing for happiness.
Atmosphere An immersive ambience accompanies the story with carefully crafted sound design. Headphones are highly recommended to absorb the cues that synchronize with every turn of Perdita’s journey.
Note: the game is currently in development. Demo content covers The Inception and the first half of The Formation. Endings, mechanics, and specifics may change as the work progresses.
